New Tearsheet in AFAR magazine

I have an image from one of my personal projects on my last trip to Sri Lanka in the May/June 2012 issue of Afar magazine!

Here’s a little backstory on this image:

I had seen an image of K. Chattu Kuttan in a travel book on my way to Sri Lanka. He’s famous for being the longtime greeter (since 1942!) at the Galle Face Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka. I knew I had to photograph him, so I booked 2 days at the famous and one of the oldest hotels in Sri Lanka on a mission to locate and photograph Kuttan.

Apparently Kuttan had the day off on my first attempt finding him. No worries, just enjoy the ocean side hotel and explore more of Colombo. On the 2nd morning, I found Kuttan in the hotel lobby. I had scouted areas around the hotel which I knew would work, so when I had the opportunity to ask and photograph him, I knew exactly where we can shoot this portrait. So we spent 5 minutes where the hotel meets the ocean taking pictures, and I knew I had taken a photograph I would be proud of.

And some other images I dig from that trip:
